Business as usual in Washington D.C. just received a major jolt. That huntress warrior from Alaska, Sarah Palin, delivered the keynote address to a fledgling Tea Party movement that was just vanilla enough to keep both party machines guessing whether she will embrace the conservative Republican agenda or stride forward to lead a third party revolt. Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans, despite their last minute efforts to minimize her impact or her popularity, see her coming until it is way too late. Like Roman Senators during the fall of the Roman Empire they are content to eat grapes while their civilization implodes. Now those precious grapes are fast turning sour.
Our forefathers, in their great wisdom, saw days such as this coming. They foresaw a time when the powers that be took rather than gave, lied rather than told the truth, and put their careers and fortunes above those of the people they supposedly served. They pledged their lives, fortunes and their sacred honor by affixing their signatures to documents which effectively would have been their death warrants had the British defeated the Continental Army. Contrast these brave men with those leaders today who sign documents they have not read and accept bribes for their votes. Seeing ahead, the wise and courageous men of that vastly more perilous time made provisions that the will of the people would supersede the stranglehold of any political party or parties.
Despite their ability to control and manipulate the media, their wanton disregard of the peoples most pressing needs and their tendency to travel 1000 miles to tell a lie instead of walking a foot to tell the truth, both parties know and fear those provisions. They fear Sarah Palin. They fear a third party. Most importantly, like Marie Antoinette staring wide eyed at the guillotine, they fear those who they have regarded as unimportant. They fear you.
